Why Is Search Engine Optimization is an important topic of discussion?

Search engine optimization is one of the most controversial topics on the internet today. It is also one of the topics that is most misunderstood. Search engine optimization (SEO) in its basic form is an act of altering a website to do well in the search engine’s organic, crawler-based listings.

Now even this easy to point concept of search engine optimization (SEO) will lead to lively discussions about SEO’s meaning and purpose. So the question might be asked, why is SEO such a popular and controversial topic that causes so much discussion within the SEO community and the website owners in particular? There are many reasons in my humble opinion why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has the success it enjoys at the moment.

Targeted Website Traffic

If you ask the vast majority of SEO website owners and people what is the most important factor for a successful website business and/or operation. A large percentage of people will say website traffic and website traffic even more specifically targeted.

Search engines are currently the largest resource on the internet for targeted website traffic on an ongoing basis. On an annual basis stats show that around 75-80% of all internet purchases made by individuals originally began as a result of a search engine search and the vast majority of people visiting websites usually come through a search engine.

Numbers so dominate can not even be ignored by the search engine optimization’s biggest opponents. Moreover, since SEO is focused on optimizing search engine-related websites for ranking success, it is only natural that people would be interested in the search engine optimization (SEO) field and practice.

SEO Controversy

SEO is one of the most controversial website operations topics. SEO’s proponents can say it provides a viable method for viewing websites in search engines that is important for any website that desires Internet traffic today.

Nevertheless, opponents who are dissatisfied with SEO may also argue that many websites achieve high visibility in search engines without the use of SEO research and that SEO practitioners only provide high cost services that do not provide guarantees of success in search engine ranking.

This situation, which has some merit with regard to the arguments on both sides, generates heated debates between SEO, and SEO opponents on an ongoing basis that is fought on a daily basis on forums, blogs, websites and newsletters throughout the internet along with magazine and television exposure.

Simply putting controversy brings attention and whether you like it or hate it, SEO really brings a lot of controversy. SEO has many benefits since it plays a dominant role in generating targeted website traffic.

The search engine optimization of the is a multi-million dollar business. Search engines use ads to raise billions of dollars each year. Websites earn billions of dollars each year for their owners through the use of search engines either through paid advertising or organic (free) search results listings.

With billions of dollars on the table on an annual basis, it’s no surprise that anything that can provide a person or business with a competitive edge in the ultra-high-speed internet environment will be a hot topic for discussion and debate.

In addition, search engine optimization is a very popular topic for decision-makers in many companies through a combination of perception and reality that highlights search engine optimization as a key to increasing internet sales, providing additional attention to SEO in the business world and beyond.

No Standard SEO Rules or Regulations

SEO may be described as a modern wild wild west version. Because there are no formal set standards for the industry as a whole, almost anything can be said or done.

Therefore, no one really is right or wrong about any thoughts, comments or decisions about SEO techniques and/or methods in a true sense. Right or wrong is replaced by what people consider ethical, and there is a unique set of ethics for everyone.

What one person would find immoral might be viewed by someone else as being totally honest, well-intentioned. That’s why in the SEO business, you have names like white hat and black hat SEO.

Search Engines

Search engine optimization has been developed as a by-product resulting from search engine growth, use and popularity. Absent search engines, the current form and format of the SEO industry does not exist.

As confirmed by statistics on an annual basis, the majority of targeted internet website traffic is generated directly or indirectly through search engines and a very high percentage of internet sales are directly linked to visitors from search engines looking for products and/or services.

With the dominant role that search engines play on the internet and the fact that search engine performance depends on its users being able to deliver accurate and reliable search results, successful search engines tend to develop an informal partnership with the SEO industry.

For this reason, search engines will sometimes provide their visitors directly on the search engines with SEO information and SEO recommendations.

This helps the SEO industry tremendously by placing the industry at the forefront of the main people interested in organic (free) search results that are the users of the search engine looking for something specific and the website owners who want to be found in the search engine results.
